Each section uses both stages of creative thinking. The first stage involves ‘opening up’ or divergent thinking: postponing judgement, challenging mindsets, accumulating a range of possibilities. The second stage involves ‘closing down’ or convergent thinking: selecting, focusing, and developing material into something useful (see Figure 4).
