Concept of Duty; an example: Kashtra Dharma Dharma is central to Hindu life and encompasses everything we do, touches everyone irrespective of age, station in life, or caste. In a nutshell, dharma insists on each person performing his or her duty. This is the key message in the Gita when Lord Krishna charges the hero Arjuna to perform his duty. In this particular instance the duty refers to the duty of a warrior and the corresponding dharma is kshatra dharma, dharma pertaining to the warrior function - fighting to defend dharma when it is violated.
How convenient it would have been if the phrase contained only the first part: Dharmo rakshati. It would be a simple statement analogous to saying parents love children. It would be a clear one-way street. But it is not so! The other part of the phrase is: rakshitaha. This part brings us into the action. Why was this coined? That we human beings need protection is understandable. But rakshithaha implies that the concept itself needs protection too. This is interesting as it conveys the need to protect the very concept whose protection we are seeking.
The recovery from that disaster is nowhere near completion. In such an environment of extreme greed, a refreshing contrast stood out when the billionaire Warren Buffet openly pointed out the unfair and unjust tax policy that allowed him to pay at a tax rate lower than that of his office staff. His position has ushered a new awareness in regard to the need to right a wrong and will have a lasting influence on tax reform efforts. IX. Flexibility: A Dynamic Concept: Kaala Dharma/Sthala Dharma The concept of dharma has evolved over the centuries and appears to have a built-in flexibility without compromising the fundamentals.
